# kayet > kayet is a quiet, distraction-free text editor for macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), built with Rust and Tauri 2 with a CodeMirror 6 frontend. When you are writing, the only thing on screen is your text: the title bar, traffic lights and controls stay hidden until the cursor reaches the top of the window. It is free and open source under the Apache License 2.0, with no paid tiers, no feature gating and no telemetry. kayet edits plain text, Markdown and source code. It offers a live Markdown preview, an optional workspace file tree, tabs, a command palette (⌘K), a file finder (⌘P), workspace-wide search (⌘⇧F), zen mode, Markdown presentations (slides divided by `---`), HTML and PDF export, crash recovery, optional spell check, light and dark appearance with seventeen built-in color themes and in-place app updates. All settings live in a single TOML file, `~/.kayet/config.toml`. ## Docs - [Full description](https://getkayet.app/llms-full.txt): features, keyboard shortcuts and configuration in one plain-text file - [README](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pwittchen/kayet/master/README.md): overview, opening files from the terminal, development setup - [Specification](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pwittchen/kayet/master/SPEC.md): the source of truth for product behavior and design - [Roadmap](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pwittchen/kayet/master/ROADMAP.md): planned work ## Download - [kayet for Mac, Apple Silicon (.dmg)](https://github.com/pwittchen/kayet/releases/latest/download/kayet-macos-aarch64.dmg): latest release, signed and notarized, for Macs with Apple Silicon (M-series) - [kayet for Mac, Intel (.dmg)](https://github.com/pwittchen/kayet/releases/latest/download/kayet-macos-x86_64.dmg): the same release built for Intel Macs - [Releases](https://github.com/pwittchen/kayet/releases): release notes and previous versions ## Optional - [Source code](https://github.com/pwittchen/kayet): GitHub repository - [License](https://github.com/pwittchen/kayet/blob/master/LICENSE): Apache License 2.0 - [Comparisons](https://getkayet.app/alternatives/ia-writer.html): kayet as an alternative to iA Writer, Typora, Ulysses, Bear, Obsidian, Notion, Apple Notes, Drafts, Byword, Sublime Text, BBEdit and TextEdit - [Privacy policy](https://getkayet.app/privacy.html): no telemetry in the app; the website uses DataFast analytics - [Author](https://wittchen.io): Piotr Wittchen, available for contracts, project development and consulting (piotr@wittchen.io)
